A matador is the main bullfighter in the arena.  He is the master or the one who kills the bulls.  Bullfighting is a national pass time in Spain and Mexico.  A torero is all of the bullfighters that fight the bulls in the ring.

Toreros are usually men, there are very few women who are in this profession.  Cristina Sanchez is one of the few women bull fighters in the world.  The few women have tried this profession have received a lot of resistance from the men.  A matador is a highly respected individual in Spanish society.

Bullfighting is more of an art than a sport.  If a torero sits on a horse and uses a lance to test the bull‘s strength, he is considered a Picador.  These picadors are actually helping the matador find the bull’s weak spots.  Bullfighters have this in their blood.  They are born into a family of bull fighters.
They are born to be a matador.
