Oktoberfest is part of the Bavarian culture in southern Germany.  It is a huge fair that is held every year at the end of September and extends into the first week of October.  It is held in a large meadow in the middle of Munich.

More than five million people attend Oktoberfest each year, and these five million people consume about seven million liters of beer.  Only the finest beer is allowed to be sold at Oktoberfest.  It must be brewed in Munich and must pass their strict tests to qualify as an Oktoberfest beer.

There is also food at the festival for you to try.  Basic German fare such as, chicken, sausage, grilled ham hock, grilled fish on a stick, and Schweinebraten, which is roast pork are some of the meats that are sold at this festival.  Potato pancakes and Sauerkraut or Blaukraut, which is a red cabbage, are also delicious.
