Frog Prince Dog Costume

What little princess wouldn’t want to kiss this charming frog?  Our darling frog costume is all green. 

The light green frog shirt comes down over his front legs.  It has an attached green hood looks sweet with two big green frog eyes attached.

What is The Frog Prince?

The Frog Prince fairytale comes from the Brothers Grimm.  It is a German fairytale. The Muppets did a great job with their version of this classic tale in 1971 on their television special.   The beautiful spoiled little princess meets a frog after dropping her golden ball into his pond, which he retrieves for her. The frog is allowed to come into the castle, dine at the royal table and sleep in the princess’ bed on her pillow.

In the Grimm version the frog’s spell is broken when the princess throws it against the wall in disgust.  He is magically turned into a prince.  I like the other version, where the frog’s spell is broken by a kiss.  This is the American version.  The moral of the story is,” You have to kiss a lot of frogs to find your prince!”  Maybe it should be,” Be the kind of princess a frog prince would want to kiss!”

What is a Pumpkin?

Pumpkin is actually an American word.  We have Americanized the British word, pumpion, which is what we refer to as winter squash.  This comes from the Greek word, pepon, which means large melon.  Our actual orange round pumpkin squash originated in North America.  Seeds were found in Mexico that date back to 5000 BC. Our North American pumpkin range in size from around 8-19 pounds, but there have been some grown that weigh 75 pounds.

It has a thick orange rind that is smooth, although the stem is quite prickly.  The pumpkin has the male and female flowers on them.  The female flower has an ovary near the petals.  The flowers are short lived and usually only last for one day.  Pumpkins are very delicious especially if they are made into a pie.  They are good for you also.  They have beta carotene in them which is a good source of vitamin A.

Bloomin Snout Pet Costume

It’s Autumn but your dog can still bloom like it was Spring!

A daisy.  What is a daisy?

The daisy is the largest family of flowering plants.  It includes the aster, the daisy, and the sunflower. In this group there is over 22,000 species that are members of this family.  There bright yellow, pink and lavender flowers brighten our day.

We get many products from this group of plants.  We get cooking oil, sunflower seeds, artichokes, chamomile teas, sweeteners, calendula  potpourri, insecticides and lettuce.

Many of these flowers are our favorites.  The marigold, chrysanthemum, and zinnias are especially liked for flower beds.  You can find these plants almost everywhere in the world.  They grow on every continent except Antarctica.  Aster comes from the Greek and means star.

This is a fitting title for this beautiful flower.  These plants are usually flowers but there are a few trees and shrubs also.  They are distinctly different from other plants and are easily recognized by their flower head.

What good are real ladybugs?
Ladybugs are cute and functional in the garden.  They eat aphids and are therefore a useful insect.  A common myth is that the spots on their back determine their age.  They are one of the first insects to appear in the spring.

There are many plants that attract ladybugs.  Some of these plants are; buckwheat, coriander, crimson clover, dill, caraway, and yarrow.  They bring good weather because they come at the first of spring, about the same time as the lilac blooms.  The ladybug is a symbol of good luck to all who see it.  Children blow it away and make a wish.
